CUT Assessment Information

The general criteria that CTE consultants use to evaluate your work are available online on the syllabus pages for GS 901, GS 902 and GS 903. In the evaluation sections, you will see performance criteria for oral presentation components and heuristics for written components.

All work done for the CUT is evaluated on a pass/fail basis. Since we are committed to a continuous improvement model, you may submit up to one revision for any work done except an observation event. If your work passes, it is marked “accepted”. If a first submission does not pass, it is marked “revision required” and given a specified period of time within which you may submit a revision. If a resubmission is not received within that period of time, your work will be marked “not accepted” by CTE, and you will not receive credit towards your CUT for it. If a resubmission is received and does not pass, it is also marked “not accepted” and cannot be revised any further. A “not accepted” submission would constitute a failed submission.

The CUT program also includes clear assessment criteria that if not met, can result in your removal from the Certificate Program. These assessment criteria were put in place primarily to deal with participants who are unwilling to demonstrate continuous improvement and/or to incorporate formative feedback given by CTE consultants into their work. We envision these criteria being necessary for exceptional cases; they are not likely to be needed for the majority of our participants.

We expect you to submit work that is of professional quality. This means that you should proofread your work prior to submission and, if written English is not your strength, you should also have a friend or colleague proofread your work. You should be critical of the work you are submitting because multiple revisions will not be accepted.

English-as-a-Second-Language Special Assistance

For English-as-a-Second-Language participants, a graduate course on academic writing, ESL 602R or ESL 612R available through Renison College, will be recommended if you do meet the CUT language requirements, or if you have been removed from GS 901 or GS 903 for written language proficiency reasons.

Removal from the CUT

You may be removed from the CUT program for:

  • Plagiarism (see plagiarism guidelines from CTE ’s Director)
  • Removal from any of the three CUT courses
Once you have been removed from the CUT, you may not re-register for the Certificate Program. If you are removed from any of the courses, an “NCR”, or No Credit, will appear on your transcript. Any courses completed prior to your removal from the CUT will remain on your transcript.

Removal from GS 901, 902 and/or 903

You may be removed from a CUT course if you:

GS 901

  • Fail 3 response papers

GS 902

  • Fail the teaching dossier
  • Fail the main deliverable of the research project

GS 903

  • Fail an observation response paper
  • Have two observation events not accepted

A fail is defined as:

  • Failure to submit an observation response paper in the allowable time
  • Failure to submit the revision of any submission in the allowable time
  • Failure of a revision (all submitted work can be revised only once)

For more specific details on the assessment criteria for each CUT course, consult the section on assessment criteria in each of the course syllabi:

If you choose to withdraw from any of the courses, you may do so through Quest within the first 6 weeks of the term in which you registered. If you choose to withdraw after the first 6 weeks of the term, you will need to have a Drop/Add form signed by the CTE Director or Associate Director. Once a CUT course has been dropped, it will be removed from your transcript.
